Botulinum toxin administration

Botulinum toxin administration is the most widely used procedure among cosmetic procedures worldwide. It is a product produced by the bacteria called “Clostridium botulinum” under natural conditions. This product prevents voluntary contraction of muscles by disrupting the nerve-muscle connection in the human body. While used in the treatment of strabismus, it was found that the muscles around the eyes were affected unintentionally and wrinkles (crow’s feet) around the eyes disappeared. It was first approved by the FDA for cosmetic use in 2002.

Is the procedure painful?

It is aimed to make the injection as painless as possible by applying cold application anesthesia or cream before the procedure. The needles of the injectors used during the process are very fine and two injectors are used. Thus, the needle tip is prevented from blunting and increasing pain. It is injected to an average of 20 points in each patient.

How long does the procedure take, when does its effect start and how long does it last?

The operative time is about 10 minutes. Its effect starts within 3 days. A follow-up examination is performed 15 days after the administration. Although the duration of action is about 4-6 months, it varies depending on the individual’s lifestyle and metabolism. An average of 2 or 3 administrations is required per year.

What happens if I stop receiving botulinum toxin administration? Does a permanent deformation occur on my face?

No deformation occurs on the face after the botulinum toxin administration. Aging is prevented since mimic movements are suppressed. If the administration is not repeated, the appearance becomes like before the administration.

Can there be undesirable conditions that may occur after the procedure?

Undesirable conditions may occur after every procedure. These rates are quite low and drop much more in experienced hands.

The exact mechanism of migraine pain has not been determined and several causes have been blamed in this regard. In individuals who have complaints of excessive sweating, it is administered by targeting these ducts. It differs from the cosmetic administration at several points. Bruxism and temporomandibular joint problems

The masseter muscle that provides chewing is present on both sides of the jaw bone. In some individuals, the muscle mass grows due to the overfunction of this muscle. This growth both causes cosmetic discomfort and lead to temporomandibular joint problems by putting a load on the temporomandibular joint. With the injection administered to this muscle, the overfunction of the muscle is prevented and the load on the joint is reduced, and a more cosmetically acceptable appearance is aimed by slimming the muscle.
